LOVERE
Lovere, along its whole history never exceeded 7,000 habitants and this figure was only achieved between the sixties and seventies. However, in this area of the High Sebino (Northern side of the lake) a social and economical microclimate has been achieved hence becoming a precious treasure chest of history and stories.
Antique Lovere
Gallic Celtic, Etruscan, Romans when and how they arrived on this side of the High Sebino they left their footprints and their destiny within.
Medieval Lovere
The medieval era, 400 generations of ancestors, thousand years of history, trade and architecture, has left in Lovere clear footprints and a historical town centre well maintained still offering houses, towers, old churches, narrow streets, steep stairs, tunnels in-between, very powerful walls and hidden behind them house-units built on top of other houses, small alleys, and remarkable views over the surrounding landscape.
Renaissance Lovere
The season when man and his masterpieces had a leading role in every day’s life: town planning was introduced, huge buildings, industrious wealth and on top of this an imposing Basilica of Santa Maria. Lovere during this era was under the governance of the enlightened Venetian Republic. The medieval walls were destroyed and Lovere was opening up to the world. There are also footprints from Seigniories and pestilence which marked the decline of this golden era.
Modern Lovere
Napoleon’s adventure, Accademy of Art, the industry was reborn, the iron and steel plant was established, steam boats were introduced on the lake, tram also was seen for the first time, two local people were sanctified and Lovere regained its tourism-orientated economy and its opening to the future.
Lovere by night
This village by night, its streets, its mysteries, its lights, its shades, its night life, offers the opportunity to end the evening underneath the antique vaults (medieval) in a local pub with over 150 beer brands served in 60 different typical glasses and over 50 breweries here represented: handmade beers, Trappist beers, abbey beers, rare beers, aged beers and unusual ones, coming from all over the world.
All the above tours are usually carried out between 10 a.m. and 12.00 o’clock. The tour fee is about 2 Euros per person.
